Tom Deans, Ph.D., Intergenerational Wealth Expert & Best-Selling Author of Every Family's Business and Willing Wisdom
Dr. Tom Deans is the author of, Every Family’s Business -- the best-selling family business book of all-time -- selected by the New York Times as one of the Top Ten Books Business Owners Should Read. With more than a half million copies sold in more than 100 countries, the book provides the framework for his public lectures and seminars. Having delivered more than 500 speeches in 15 countries – his long awaited sequel -- Willing Wisdom was released last year to critical acclaim and is already a Globe and Mail best-seller.
Both of Tom’s books deal with the intergenerational transition of family wealth. It is a subject of profound importance to any conversation about retirement. Like his books -- his talks are unconventional and contrarian.
Previously, Deans was the CEO of a large multinational family business, has worked in banking and in government relations, and has been the president of a railway. Tom has been featured in numerous magazines and journals including Profit, Money Sense, Inc. The wall Street Journal and The New York Times. A frequent guest on CNBC, Money Line and BNN, Tom is a highly sought after international public speaker on succession planning, wealth management and philanthropic giving.
Deans earned a B.A. from Mount Allison University, an M.A. from McMaster University and a Ph.D. from the University of Warwick in England.
His speeches aren’t just about money and clever tax plans. They’re about giving advisors the confidence to hold family meetings to discuss wealth and it’s inevitable transfer to someone. Retirement is more than golf – it’s about clear and consistent family meetings about aging, long term care and the preparation of heirs.

Bill Bishop, CEO, Bishop Communications Inc.
In his teenage years, Bill Bishop was dead set against a car
eer in marketing. His parents operated a small marketing company and to save money, they often used Bill as free labor in advertising and PR programs. At the age of six, he was cast as "The OFF Boy" in a series of commercials for the famous insect repellant. At age 14, they dressed him up in a frog outfit to promote a local retail mall, followed by a humiliating stint in a pink bunny suit.
These indignities, along with many others, made Bill swear he would never pursue marketing as a career. Yet, during his studies in journalism, Bill was thrust back into the marketing world when he won a waiter contest by selling 1,400 lobsters. This seminal event was so inspiring and lucrative that Bill concluded he actually loved marketing and decided to start his own marketing company. Since that time, he has helped more than 5,000 entrepreneurs in dozens of industries around the world develop and market BIG Ideas.
Today, Bill is the CEO of Bishop Communications Inc. and the creator of The BIG Idea Adventure™, an advanced coaching program that helps entrepreneurs grow their business by creating, packaging, and promoting BIG Ideas. He is also the founder of two social networks—The 10% Referral Club™ and The Keynote Collective™, and the inventor of the popular board game Quibberish®: The Paraphrase Puzzle Game.
In addition, Bill is the author of eight books including How To Sell A Lobster (now sold in 25 countries in 12 languages), The Problem With Penguins, Beyond Basketballs, and Global Marketing For The Digital Age. He was also the author of Strategic Marketing For The Digital Age, the first book published about e-commerce and Internet marketing. He is currently working on his new book The New Factory: Reinventing Your Business For The 21st Century Marketplace.
Bill has delivered speeches to hundreds of organizations including The MIT Entrepreneur Program, TEC, Entrepreneur's Organization (EO), Advocis, The Knowledge Bureau, MDRT, NAIFA, NAPFA, Independent Financial Brokers, Workcomp Advisors, Pro-Seminars, BNI,, The Ivey School of Business, The Schulich School of Business, and Queen's University Executive MBA Program.
